Percussionists represent Kentucky in national orchestra

Two students at the Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS)—Brandon Hall, a senior, and Garrett Oberst, a sophomore—were selected to perform in the 2010 Honor Orchestra of America this month in Indianapolis.

Representing 16 states, Honor Orchestra members were selected by recorded audition, which were evaluated by leading music educators. “The 2010 Honor Orchestra of America members are ambassadors of America’s music programs as well as their states, schools, and communities,” says Scott McCormick, president and CEO of Music for All, the organization that runs the Honor Orchestra program. The 2010 Honor Orchestra performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Brandon also was a member of the Bands of America National Honor Band in 2009. He has been the principal percussionist at YPAS for two years, and he has performed in many all-county and all-state bands and orchestras. Garrett is also a YPAS percussionist, and he too has participated in all-state and all-county concerts.
