Schools to offer free H1N1 vaccinations

JCPS is working with the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness to offer students free H1N1 flu vaccinations near the end of November or the beginning of December. Each school will notify parents when a specific date is set.

All schools will send parents an information packet with a permission form. To make sure their child receives a vaccination, parents will need to fill out the form completely and return it to the school as soon as possible. The permission form also will be available on the JCPS Web site and on the health department site (www.louisvilleky.gov/health).

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has recommended that children and young adults ages 6 months through 24 years receive the H1N1 vaccine as soon as it is available. Parents who have concerns about their child’s eligibility for the vaccination should contact their health care provider before signing the permission form--especially if the child has an underlying health condition.

JCPS schools will be able to provide vaccinations only to students and their own staff members. Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s school if they have questions.
