The Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBE) is “extremely confident” in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Superintendent Marty Pollio’s ability to move the district forward. During the regular board meeting on June 26, JCBE members shared findings from their performance evaluation of Dr. Pollio as the JCPS superintendent.

“He is a strategic, visionary, passionate and committed leader who inspires confidence in the district,” Board Chair Diane Porter said. “We offer him our support and look forward to working closely with him during the following year as he implements and evaluates our shared vision for student success.”

The review commended Dr. Pollio’s commitment to fulfill the strategic vision set by the board. Among the findings, the review recognized Dr. Pollio’s:

  • Leadership in the reorganization of central office and redirecting of funds to the classroom;
  • Attention to reviewing the student assignment plan and redesigning the district’s alternative schools;
  • Commitment to instructional leadership and deeper learning through the districtwide Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) implementation and the JCPS Backpack of Success Skills initiative;
  • Deep commitment to transparency and compliance with laws and regulations;
  • Proven ability to strengthen culture and climate in the school district—noting vast improvements in Comprehensive School Survey (CSS) data, particularly in teacher satisfaction with central office as well as the management of district funds;
  • Ability to communicate a shared vision, develop equitable practice and ensure accountability;
  • Commitment to a human resources department that provides excellent customer service to schools and applicants and improves minority recruitment and retention;
  • Steps to improve managerial efficiency and streamline and strengthen the budget process;
  • And vision for collaboration with the community.

“I appreciate the board’s support and teamwork,” Dr. Pollio said. “We’ve come a long way—and I appreciate the work we’ve done together and will continue to do to move our district forward.”

The board utilizes the Superintendent Professional Growth and Effectiveness System (SPGES), developed by the Kentucky Department of Education, for use in the evaluation of the superintendent. SPGES establishes seven leadership standards by which the performance of a superintendent is measured.
