Western Middle School finishes in top ten
Almost 500 schools from more than 100 Kentucky school districts competed in the Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) State Championship on Thursday, April 18 at Rupp Arena in Lexington. Forty-two JCPS schools brought Level 2 Showcase projects to the competition floor. These schools advanced to state by qualifying at the regional competition held at the University of Louisville in November.
Blake Elementary, Field Elementary, Portland Elementary, Young Elementary, Western Middle School for the Arts, and Eastern High School moved on to Level 3 judging and were among the top 81 projects in the state. Western Middle School for the Arts’ project, which centers on finding ways to combat food deserts by creating viable, sustainable food sources within communities using aquaponics, finished in the top ten.
In addition to the Showcase, JCPS students competed in Live Performance, Digital Product, and Service Team categories. These categories include competitions in robotics, coding, graphic design, engineering, ePublishing, and more. Winning schools in these categories can be found here.
