June 9, 2020 JCPS Family Update

Thank you for reading our latest letter from JCPS Communications

Dear JCPS Families,

While the 2019-20 school year has ended, many of you have questions about what comes next. We hope this note will shed some light on several items of interest to you and your child.

  • REPORT CARDS - Due to COVID-19, schools could not send home a hard copy of your child’s report card. You can find your child’s grades and report card in the Parent Portal on the JCPS web page. Additionally, your child can access their grades as well as other information via the Success Tracker in their digital JCPS Backpacks. They’ll login using the Backpack app found in the Google Waffle and, from there, will click on Student Success Tracker.
  • STUDENT ASSIGNMENT PLAN - Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio is proposing dramatic changes to JCPS’ student assignment plan for the 2021-22 school year. The proposal would provide students in west Louisville the option to attend school close to home or continue attending school in other parts of the county.  You can hear more about the plan Wednesday, June 10th at 6 p.m. when JCPS hosts a virtual summit on our YouTube channel. Families and community members will also be able to share feedback about the proposed changes via a Google form available here
  • SUMMER LEARNING - JCPS and several other community organizations are offering summer programs for JCPS students. The programs are on-line and free. All are engaging and fun and some come with rewards. Some information about JCPS summer programs is now available here and we will soon be sharing more details about ALL summer offerings. These will be open to all JCPS students including those who have already received an e-mail invitation for the Empower program, which is offering specific instruction in reading and math.
  • CHROMEBOOKS - Families who received Chromebooks from JCPS are encouraged to keep them so your children can participate in the on-line summer learning options.
  • NTI SURVEY - If you haven’t done so already, please tell us how Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) worked for you and your child. This will be valuable feedback in the event we must rely on at-home instruction again in the future. Take the survey here.
  • NEXT SCHOOL YEAR - A determination about what school will look like in the fall has not been made at this time.  Like many other large urban school districts, we are developing a plan that focuses on your student’s safety. JCPS has a talented group working on options for next school year and we plan to share that with you soon.

Have a great summer and please encourage your child to participate in the summer learning opportunities we’ll be telling you more about in the coming days. Thanks for sharing your child with us and your support of JCPS.
