“Mr. Cathey has an impressive track record as a teacher, coach, and administrator in JCPS,” JCPS Assistant Superintendent of Middle Schools Dr. Rob Fulk said. “He understands the needs of our students and is a dynamic motivator who will lead Johnson to new heights. In the mold of Lyman T. Johnson, Mr. Cathey is a leader who wants the best for his students, staff, and families. We look forward to the leadership he will bring to one of our most storied schools.”

“I am blessed and honored to serve, support, and celebrate the staff, students and families of THE Lyman T. Johnson Traditional Middle School,” Cathey said. “ LJTMS is a special place built on the ideals of Lyman T. Johnson, and I am proud to stand in the shadows of giants. We will serve, support, and celebrate each and every Jaguar who walks through our doors and prepare them to help make our community that much better!”

Cathey earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Louisville. He also earned an education specialist degree from Bellarmine University.

Cathey starts his new position on January 3.
