Using Literacy to Honor Students' Sense of Belonging

Part 1: August 19, September 16, October 14, and November 18

Total of 16 PD credit hours. Participants are expected to attend Parts 1 and 2.

This session will address modifying Eurocentric curriculum with conversation to specifically include planning literacy instruction to help students build a sense of belonging. This is discussed through learning about how to have an anti-bias education and curriculum. Participants will engage in formative assessments, group discussions, active participation, and question/answer activities.

Race and Relationship: Microaggressions in the Classroom

Part 1: September 14, October 12, November 16, and December 14
Part 2: January 11, February 8, March 15, and April 19

Participants will learn about microaggressions, what they are, types of microaggressions, and how to recognize them. Participants will also understand how to combat them and its impact on students of color. Participants will engage in group discussions, activities, and Q/A.

African-American Female Empowerment

Participants will learn how to empower African-American female students in the classroom. They will be provided with strategies and tools and will gain knowledge of current issues that affect African-American females. Participants will have identified specific actions they want to take for the purposes of empowering African-American females as outlined by the action plan and reflection they create.
