Public Notice that a Vacancy Exists on the Jefferson County Board of Education

The Jefferson County Board of Education is seeking applications for appointment to fill an at-large vacancy on the Board, due to the resignation of James Craig.

Applications are available online. If you prefer, you can pick one up in person at Jefferson County Public Schools, VanHoose Education Center (front reception desk), 3332 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY 40218.

 Application documents must be received by 4:30 p.m. on July 31, 2026.

Board Members and Schools Represented

Senate Bill 4, which passed and took effect in 2026, required the Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBE) to restructure its seven-member board into five newly established district and at-large positions. To resolve residency overlaps, state law called for members residing in the same new district to draw lots to determine representation.  During the JCBE work session on May 12, 2026, board members in Districts 1, 3, and 4 drew lots to determine the representative for each district. The remaining board members drew lots to determine the representative for District 5, where no board members currently reside.
