History and Appreciation of the Visual and Performing Arts (HAVPA) is an option for meeting the Minimum High School Graduation Requirements outlined by the Kentucky Department of Education.

In this class, we will be following the JCPS Visual and Performing Arts Curriculum Guide (aligned with the Kentucky Academic Standards for the Visual and Performing Arts), which means that we will be using the four Artistic Processes of Creating, Performing/Presenting/Producing, Responding, and Connecting. During the year we will have four units (Visual Art, Drama, Music, and Dance) where we focus on art history and appreciation, and students will do one creative product during each unit. Additionally, students will develop Media Arts skills throughout the year by producing an ongoing cumulative media arts project (website, blog, newletter, etc) to showcase their creative work from each of the four units.
