FRC Family Letter

Family Resource Center

Hello Byck Parents & Students!

We are super excited to begin the 2023-2024 school year with you and your student(s)! In this letter I will provide you with information about Byck Elementary School’s Family Resource Center and what we will be offering to our students and families at Byck Elementary this academic year.

Family Resource and Youth Service Centers (FRYSC) were created as an important part of the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA) to provide information and/or referrals to families.

The Family Resource Center is accessible to all students who attend Byck Elementary School and their families.  Byck Elementary FRC Hours of Operations are Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 4:30PM; other times will be available by appointment only.

FRYSC Mandatory Components include:

  • After-school childcare for children referrals

  • Families in Training, which shall consist of an integrated approach to home visits, group meetings, and monitoring child development for new and expectant parents

  • Family literacy services as described in KRS 158.360 or a similar program designed to provide opportunities for parents and children to learn together and promote lifelong learning

  • Health services or referrals to health services, or both

At Byck Elementary School we provide a wide variety of resources which include, but are not limited to school supplies need, support groups, student after-school activities, parent involvement programs and trainings, emergency assistance, family health services, food pantry, collaborative events with neighborhood partners, referrals and resources for child-care, tutoring programs, employment programs, housing assistance, financial programs, GED/ adult literacy programs, and more. We also address attendance, basic needs assistance, parent involvement, and conduct home visits.

The Family Resource Center’s job is to help remove barriers to education. We strive to encircle our students and families with the things they need to be successful in school and in life. We want to help people acquire the tools to help themselves by empowering our families.

Ms. Svea Carter, Byck FRC
