Tioka Ivory

Tioka Ivory

Tioka Ivory was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI. She pursued a bachelor of science degree in elementary education at Florida A&M University. She moved to Louisville in August 2000, where she completed her student teaching at the J. Graham Brown School. Ivory began her teaching career in 2001 at Dunn Elementary, where she taught third through fifth grades. Ivory was a participant in Identifying Excellent Administrators for Schools (IDEAS) and Principals For Tomorrow (PFT). She also enrolled at the University of Louisville (UofL), where she earned a master’s degree in educational administration. After working at Dunn Elementary for five years, it was important for Ivory to experience working with students and families from more diverse backgrounds. In 2007, Ivory taught sixth-grade science at Western Middle School. In 2009, she became a science resource teacher at Western. She had a fantastic opportunity working with both teachers and students for two years. She completed her Rank I in middle school science from UofL.

In January 2011, Ivory was a principal intern at Chancey Elementary. Beginning in August 2011, she became the assistant principal at Chancey. The role of the assistant principal was a rewarding opportunity to serve teachers, students, and families. She was able to learn and grow as a leader. When dealing with students and parents, she focused on building lasting relationships. Ultimately, her goal was to ensure that students were academically successful. A strong relationship with students and families ensured a partnership in a child’s development. She is proud to do whatever it takes to help students and families overcome barriers in life to make an impact on the world. She will bring that vision with her as she leads the students, staff, and families as the principal of Chancey Elementary. She embraces the diversity of Chancey students and recognizes that we all must overcome barriers in life.
