Dragon Nation,
Welcome back! This summer went by so fast, and I am glad to have students returning on Thursday. I hope everyone had the summer break they wanted and are ready to return to learning. We are experiencing increased student enrollment which allowed us to hire additional teachers and add new course offerings. Our CTE programs through the Academy of Louisville are top notch and rival any offered at other JCPS high schools. Ask your student what pathway they are in and how they plan to use what they are learning in their future.
The first few days of school will require some patience. The district bus plans are extremely detailed, and I am confident we are up to any challenge we may face. If your students is riding a bus, please make sure they know their bus number, stop location and pick up time. We will do our best to have students on their buses immediately after school to transport them home so our drivers can start on their next school run.
If your student was not able to attend registration, they will receive their schedule the first day of school. We know there will be some adjustments to make and our counselors are working tirelessly to ensure students have the courses they want and need.
Chromebooks will be distributed after the first week of school. If your student did not return theirs from last year, please have them bring it in so it can be serviced and reissued. Student attendance to school is extremely important as students need to be here in order for their teachers to deliver personalized instruction.
School starts promptly at 8:40 and we release at 3:20. The building is open to students at 8:00 and pick up needs to occur right after school lets out, so please plan accordingly if your student is not riding a bus. We need to have adult supervision for any student physically at Doss, so drop off and pick up times are important.
We are looking forward to serving your family and student this year!
Best regards,
Dr. Julie Chancellor, Executive Principal
