  • 3:20 - dismissal

    • Students who are dropped off will be picked up in the same location

    • Please be patient for the first couple of weeks as it takes awhile to get

      through this process

    • It gets much better after the first couple of weeks!!!!

Counselors Update

Several emails and communications have been sent out to you from Eastern High School, but the EHS counseling team wanted to send out a few reminders as we approach the start of the school year:

  • The district has released bussing information via the JCPS website. Please

make sure you check Bus Finder for bus number and pick up location

information. If you have any bussing questions/issues - you need to contact the

district office - not Eastern. The number is 502-485-3162.

  • Students are now able to see their PRELIMINARY schedules in Infinite Campus.

Counselors are working on (and will continue to work on) schedules up until

school starts. Students will have an opportunity to REQUEST a schedule

change by completing the schedule change request Google form (the link is

    included below)

    • PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL COUNSELORS REGARDING SCHEDULE CHANGE

REQUESTS. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE GOOGLE FORM!

    • The schedule change request form will be open from August 1

      st

      - August 11

      th

    • This is a REQUEST form only - not a guarantee that a schedule will be

changed. It is imperative that students review their transcripts (these can be

found on their IC student portal) to make sure that they are scheduled in their

correct classes. Schedule changes will be on a first come first served basis. We

do NOT schedule based on teacher preference, period preference, friend

preference, etc. We will do our best to honor as many schedule requests as

possible - but schedules are based on needs, not wants.

  • Schedule Change Request

    • VERY IMPORTANT - On TUESDAY, AUGUST 8

      th

      - students need to access

their IC student portal and PRINT, WRITE, TAKE A SCREENSHOT of their

schedule. When students report to school on Wednesday, August 9

      th

      they will

report to their 1st period class (BASED ON THE SCHEDULE FROM 8/8).

    • When they report to their 1

st period class, they will be given an UPDATED

schedule (on BLUE paper). Counselors will be adjusting schedules up until 8/7 -

so schedules can change from 8/1 - 8/7.

    • After school starts - and for the first 20 days of school - schedules will continue to

remain FLUID. This means that students schedules MAY be adjusted due to

schedule errors, balancing class sizes, teacher counts, needed courses, new

enrollments, etc. As a reminder, we do NOT schedule based on teacher

preference, period preference, friend preference, etc.

  • The FIRST official day of school is Wednesday, August 9

    th. It is ESSENTIAL

that students are present the FIRST day of school. If your student misses the

first day of school, Infinite Campus will automatically "withdraw" your student

from Eastern. If/when your student shows up to Eastern after the 1

    st day of

school, your student will need to be re-enrolled at Eastern and their schedule will

    need to be restored.

  • REMINDER: Eastern's new school hours for the 2023-2024 school year - 8:40-3:20.

Again - We are excited to see all of our fantastic students next week!!!

EHS Counseling Team:

  • Student Handbook Updates

    • Please review the Student Handbook carefully: Student Handbook

    • SBDM has recommended changes in the following areas:

      • Cell Phones:

        • Students are not allowed to use cell phones during class at Eastern

unless the teacher has requested use for instructional purposes

from the principal. This will be strictly enforced.

        • Research indicates increased screen time, particularly among

adolescents, contributes to increased mental health concerns, like

anxiety and depression. A couple of the studies are linked below:

          • from Yale School of Medicine

          • from the National Institutes of Health

        • Please partner with us in the focus on our students’ mental health by

limiting contact with your student(s) to before or after school or during their scheduled lunch. In the event of an emergency requiring immediate

contact, please call the main office.

      • Dress Code:

        • The dress code mainly remained the same for

upperclassmen. The items which will be more strictly enforced or were

          changed are listed below.

        • Earbuds and headphones are not to be worn in common areas or

classrooms (excluding instructional purposes at the direction of the

teacher) during the school day for safety reasons.

In the event of an emergency, students need to be aware of guidance and instruction provided by school officials with immediacy.

        • All backpacks are to be stored in lockers during the school day.

Students will all receive locker information the first day of school.

          • The school is working to install large lockers in the gym area for athletes with large equipment that cannot fit in a traditional locker. Until these are readied, large athletic backs (e.g. - goalies, tennis rackets, baseball bats) can be stored in the athletic director’s office, located next to the school store, upon arrival to school.

          • See handbook for acceptable bags that can be used to carry items.

        • Midriff shirts and tank tops are not allowed during the school day.

        • Shorts and skirts should be mid-thigh or longer.

          • Mid-thigh varies by student.

          • Students should measure to ensure they are in compliance.

          • Students CAN wear pajama pants to school; this was eliminated

            from the dress code.

        • Professional Dress guidelines have been added for mock interview,

mock trial, workplace shadows, etc., when students will be

participating with our school’s business partners and/or are

participating in activities intended to prepare them for the workplace.

Bus Information

  • Bus finder - https://www.jefferson.kyschools.us/content/bus-finder

  • JCPS will mail out letters at the end of next week with your student's

    transportation plan. Please review it.

  • Students who will ride a bus may have a different bus number in the morning vs. the afternoon.
