At Mill Creek Elementary School Academy, our mission is to collaborate with students, families, and the community to elevate student achievement by nurturing the whole child. We aim to cultivate student leaders who shape their own future and positively impact the lives of others. Our focus centers on the 7 Habits of Happy Kids and the Backpack of Success Skills.

Dear Lion Families,
I am Dr. LaRhonda Mathies and it is with great enthusiasm that I introduce myself as principal of Mill Creek Leadership Academy (MCLA). I am thrilled to welcome you to the 2024-25 school year! I am so glad you entrusted MCLA to provide an enriching learning experience for your child. We are passionate about developing the whole child by growing student leaders and engaging our students’ families and community. While your child is a Mill Creek Leadership Academy student, we will strive to ensure they feel safe, supported, and a sense of belonging to our family as they learn at the highest levels of academic excellence.
This is my first year at MCLA, but my 22nd year as a veteran educator in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS). I served for 18 years as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and resource teacher at JCPS. I have recently served as the assistant principal of Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Magnet School for four years. I am a lifelong resident of West Louisville and a graduate of duPont Manual High School, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Louisville. I am looking forward to working with students, staff, parents, and community advocates to ensure opportunities for ALL students, both academically and socially.
