Attendance

Attendance is a vital part of your child’s educational growth process. Although missed assignments can be made up, lost instructional time cannot be. Students need to be present each day, every day, and on time.

Olmsted Academy North expects all students to maintain good attendance and requests that parents support good attendance as a matter of routine and report absenteeism in accordance with the JCPS Student Support and Behavior Intervention Handbook.

Tardy Students

  • All students arriving to their first-period class after 7:40 a.m. will be marked tardy.

  • All students who are tardy will sign in, recording the exact time of arrival to school in the attendance office.

  • All students arriving to school late will receive a tardy note to class indicating the time of arrival.

  • All tardies will be recorded in the student’s attendance record.

  • Students who are tardy or returning from an appointment must have a signed note from the office of appointment to be considered excused.

  • Upon the fourth tardy, a referral and a letter will be sent home indicating the number of tardies to school.

  • Upon the eighth tardy, a written notification will be sent to the parent by the grade-level administrator.

  • One day of detention will be assigned for every four tardies.

Reporting Absences

  • Parents/Guardians should call 485-8331 and report their child’s absence by 8 a.m. each day the child is absent.

  • If a parent/guardian fails to report the excuse on the day of the absence, it will be recorded as unexcused until a valid excuse, according to the JCPS Student Support and Behavior Intervention Handbook, has been received by the school.

  • In accordance with the Student Support and Behavior Intervention Handbook, students will not be permitted to make up school work/assignments for unexcused absences from school.
