The Braid Bar Invades WMSFA
The Braid Bar After School Program is open to any student interested in learning the art of hair braiding. Students will experience hands-on training, learning various braiding techniques and how to start their brand and market a business in hair braiding.
This opportunity has limited space available. Attendance is mandatory for ALL braiding sessions. Class begins Wednesday, November 8th, 2023. Class meets twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30p to 5:00p.
7th & 8th Grade UofL TRiO Talent Search Program
The University of Louisville Talent Search Program engages eligible youth in grades 7th - 12th in developmentally appropriate activities that will encourage persistence in high school, enrollment in post-secondary education, and lifelong pursuit of learning in order to be productive citizens of a global society.
Ladies of Leadership
Students are paired with a Central High School Ladies of Leadership Mentor. Mentors meet monthly with students during their academic career at WMSFA to build relationships that foster a sisterhood. Ladies of Leadership goal is to promote the personal, academic, and professional growth of student participants through mentorship and sisterhood while upholding values of scholarship, service, wellness, empowerment, and leadership. Topics may include but are not limited to self-worth, trauma, advocacy, relationships, awareness, and career readiness.
The program will meet once a month on Thursdays beginning September 28 th from 2:30p – 3:30p during school.
100 BLACK MEN
The 100 Black Men of Louisville, Inc., provides a holistic mentoring program that addresses the social, emotional, and cultural needs of our youth. Through chapter one-on-one and group mentoring efforts, our members forge relationships that positively impact our greatest resource: our youth. The mentoring program focuses on building essential skills needed to become productive, contributing citizens.
BAYA
This program is geared towards 6th grade girls. BAYA program mission is to teach young girls that they can be beautiful in their own skin just as they are and give them the tools they need to succeed in everyday life. The girls in this generation are faced with numerous challenges. Many don’t know how to deal or cope with these challenges in a positive way. The BAYA program will empower young girls while their minds are still being developed and teach them to love themselves through positive self-talk along with building their self-esteem.

The program meets once a week on Thursdays during minor class from 1:35p to 2:30p starting September 28th.
