Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Arrival

  • Students who are car riders/walkers must arrive at school by 8:45 a.m. if they need to eat breakfast.

  • No students will be allowed down the hallway, except for students in Safety Patrol, until 8:55 a.m. Safety Patrol members will be allowed to go to their post at 8:50 a.m. (Safety Patrol members who come down earlier than 8:50 a.m. will lose their belt.)

  • All students must be in their rooms by 9:05 a.m. or come to the room with a tardy slip.

  • Late buses will be allowed to eat breakfast and come to the room with a breakfast pass.

Dismissal

  • All students will walk down the right side of the hallway in an orderly manner.

  • At 3:45 p.m., car riders and pickup partners will be called to the cafeteria/gym.

  • First-run buses will be called next.

  • Last bus riders will be dismissed by 3:50 p.m. to the gym.

  • Pickup partners and car riders must be picked up by 4 p.m. each day.

Parents

  • Parents will not be permitted in the hallway during arrival and dismissal. If a parent is walking down the hallway, he or she will be directed to wait in the gym. This is a School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council Policy and is for the safety of students. Parents will only be permitted to walk their child to the door of the classroom for the first week of school.

  • Parents who are pickup partners must enter through the Garland Street door and wait inside the gym for the students.

  • A note should be sent to the office if transportation changes other than the normal routine need to be made for a student. If a transportation change is needed after school begins for the day, the office must be notified before 2 p.m. In the event of an emergency and transportation changes for a child, the school must be notified immediately.

  • If a parent has a scheduled appointment with a teacher, the parent must have approval from the office, sign in, and wear a name tag. This should be done after all buses have been dismissed. This is for the safety of our students and staff.

Car Rider Procedures

Dropoff and Pickup at Brandeis

The safety of students is our number-one concern. We have many students whose mode of transportation to and from school is provided by a family member or car pool. The staff at Brandeis is committed to making this procedure as safe and quick as possible. Parents, students, and staff members must work together in order to keep the car riders safe and to make this experience pleasant for everyone involved.

  • When loading in the afternoon, all cars must have a car tag. If you do not have a car tag, please park and come inside to pick up your child. If you do not have a tag, you may pick one up in the office. Students must know their car tag number.

  • Please allow yourself extra time when dropping off and picking up students the first few weeks of school. We will have lots of parents in the line. This often causes a traffic backup and will require patience on the driver's part.

  • The entrance drive to the parking lot is one-way only. Please pull to the right as you enter the lot.

  • The entrance drive to drop students off is next to the sidewalk. There is no double-parking or unloading in the drive-through lane.

  • Please pull forward or as close as possible to the car in front of you when loading or unloading students.

  • Staff members will be positioned to help load and unload students. Please follow their directions at all times.

  • In the afternoon, we will load three to four cars at a time. Students will not be able to come to their car without a staff member's permission. Please do not call or honk for your child to come to the car. We want to keep everyone safe. When unloading, please be sure your child has his or her backpack and other items to ensure a speedy exit from the vehicle. Please pull into a parking space if your child has left an essential item in the vehicle.

  • Students must be loaded/unloaded on the passenger side of the vehicles. For safety reasons, we do not be load any students on the driver's side of the car. Do not drop students off or pick students up in the bus loading/unloading area or the back of the school. Cars are not permitted in the drive behind the building or the playground area.

  • When leaving Brandeis, please turn right out of the parking lot. If you plan to go toward Broadway, it would be very helpful if you continued through the light on Garland and turned at 26th Street or beyond to keep traffic flowing at the 28th Street intersection.

We want dismissal to flow smoothly for everyone this year. Thank you for your patience and courtesy.
