Physical Education (PE)
Physical Education aims to develop physically literate individuals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.
By the end of Grade 5, the learner will demonstrate competence in fundamental motor skills and selected combinations of skills; use basic movement concepts in dance, gymnastics, and small-sided practice tasks; identify basic health-related fitness concepts; exhibit acceptance of self and others in physical activities; and identify the benefits of a physically active lifestyle.
To pursue a lifetime of healthful physical activity, a physically literate individual:
Has learned the skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities.
Knows the implications and the benefits of involvement in various types of physical activities
Participates regularly in physical activity.
Is physical fit.
Values physical activity and its contributions to a healthful lifestyle.
Music
Mrs. Mueller’s philosophy: I teach the KY Core Content for arts and humanities using various methods, including Kodaly and Orff-Schulwerk. The Kodaly method uses folk songs and other high-quality musical material to develop competency in music literacy. Orff-Schulwerk is a method based heavily on student exploration and creativity. I am certified in all three levels of Kodaly training, including Orff-Schulwerk. My educational philosophy is to facilitate students developing the tools to pursue and enjoy music throughout their lives in whatever capacity suits each of them best. Students will make music in my classroom by singing, playing instruments, speaking, and moving to explore the musical elements and styles of the world.
Visual & Performing Arts
In Visual and Performing Arts class, students will study the mediums of visual art, theater, and dance. Students will explore learning the fundamental elements of each art style and understand the basics of each art form by the time they leave for middle school. The tentative schedule for the year is visual art in the fall and dance and theater in the spring!
Why Study Art?
We study art to learn more about ourselves and the world.
Art helps us understand our emotions and ourselves.
Being creative improves problem-solving, critical thinking, and memory.
Making art is fun!
