Chenoweth Elementary serves students from Kindergarten through grade five. We are located in Eastern Jefferson County, between the heart of downtown and the suburbs of East Louisville. Our state assessment scores greatly surpass district and state averages, earning us the following recognitions:
Chenoweth Elementary is ranked among the top-scoring elementary schools in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), the top 20 percent in Kentucky, and the top tier of elementary schools in JCPS without a selective admission policy.
According to the Kentucky School Report Card provided by the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), we have been noted as a school of Distinction.
The National Center for Educational Attainment rates Chenoweth as a Higher Performing School, as recognized by the ACT.
Our special area classes set Chenoweth apart from other schools. Every student will have weekly special area classes taught by a certified teacher in the following areas: World Language, STEAM Lab, music, physical education (PE), and library. Having one wing of our building and an outdoor classroom dedicated to these special classes allows students to engage in a hands-on, creative learning environment.
One of our unique features is our dedication to serving all of our students' needs and embracing our diversity. Chenoweth enrolls approximately 515 students from diverse backgrounds, both racially and economically. Chenoweth's administration and staff are dedicated to providing each and every student with a differentiated education based on individual needs. Our teachers are experienced, dedicated, and caring and make every effort to help all students reach their full potential by providing rigorous, high-level learning experiences. All of our certified teachers are registered as Highly Qualified under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) guidelines, and 90 percent of our teachers have attained a master's degree or higher in education.
As well as an outstanding staff, Chenoweth has a high rate of parental and community involvement. The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has one of the largest Board of Managers in JCPS. They provide input on school decisions and involvement through serving on School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Councils, fundraising activities, coordinating of volunteers, and providing our students with various school programs and activities. The most recent School Report Card boasts that more than 2,000 volunteer hours were conducted at Chenoweth Elementary.
