Mayor's Cup Competition

The Mayor's Cup is an academic competition with eight events: Quick Recall, Future Problem Solving, Individual Written Assessments in five subjects, and English Composition.

About 60 JCPS elementary schools participate. Schools are divided into districts based on test scores, population, and geography. Students can participate in up to three events, with a limit of two individual written assessments.

Band and Orchestra

Intermediate students have the opportunity to learn to play instrumental music through band and orchestra classes. These classes are held twice a week, and a certified teacher from a nearby high school offers instruction. Performance experiences are also provided.

Basketball

The Dunn Dolphin Basketball Team is comprised of 15 fourth- and fifth-grade boys and girls. Tryouts are typically held in October, and games begin in December. The season continues through the end of February.

Cheerleading

The Dunn Cheerleading Squad is comprised of 15 fourth- and fifth-grade girls. Tryouts are typically held in October. From December through February, the squad cheers during Dunn's basketball games at Westport Middle School.

Chess Club

We aim to provide an environment where interested students can learn and/or improve their chess skills with qualified instructors. Dunn's competitive Chess Team meets from September through April.

Cross-Country

The Cross-Country team is open to all second- through fifth-grade students. Any student interested can join the team. The season begins in August and runs through October.

To register, please contact the Dunn Elementary Cross-Country coach.

Pep Club

The Pep Club is a great way for fourth- and fifth-grade students to show their Dunn spirit! Pep Club members will attend spirit workshops to make signage and create unique cheers to motivate various extracurricular teams at Dunn. Pep Club members are encouraged to attend all Dunn basketball games. Students who are members of other Dunn teams are also welcome to join.

Safety Patrol

This is a fifth-grade leadership opportunity. Selected students act as positive role models for other students. They maintain and promote excellent safety standards within the building.

SLTP

Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) is a club of students in upper grades who are avidly interested in technology and want to strengthen their leadership skills by taking on extra projects within our school and/or community. Each year, STLP will focus on one big project to plan and carry out and other smaller projects throughout the year. Our first-ever project was creating a Sensory Room for the school; it was a huge success! STLP members serve as classroom leaders by helping their teachers and other students with technology issues. All STLP meetings are built into the school day and normally occur during the students' special area time.

Student Council

Students in third through fifth grade have an opportunity to participate in the Student Council. Elections are held each fall to select the class representatives. Parent volunteers guide the student representatives as they plan and implement community service projects. The Student Council’s motto is “Dunn Kids Care.”
