JCTMS Youth Service Center (YSC)

Youth Services Centers (YSCs) are designed to help remove barriers to student learning. Each YSC assists students and families through programs, referrals to outside agencies, and partnerships with groups within and outside the school. The population's needs determine programs and services served, available resources, location, and other local characteristics. The centers work with families to improve students' attendance, decrease problems with behavior or suspensions, offer academic support, deal with mental/physical health issues, and offer parent support and assistance. All students and families are served regardless of income.

The Jefferson County Traditional Middle School (JCTMS) YSC was created as part of the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA). The YSC's intent is to enhance students' abilities to succeed in school by assisting and supporting children, youth, and families in meeting their social and educational needs. This is done by providing services and linking families to community resources.

Services

The JCTMS YSC serves both students and their families. Services include the following:

  • Referrals to health and social services

  • Career exploration and development

  • Substance abuse education and counseling

  • Family crisis and mental health counseling
