Western High, a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Magnet, offers the following special areas of study:

Every magnet program will provide students with opportunities to receive dual credit, complete Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and earn multiple industry certifications. Students have access to STEM pathways with multiple opportunities to connect with other areas of study.

Digital Design and Game Development
Get prepared with the skills and techniques needed for designing advanced 3D games and simulations
Receive in-depth instruction on 2D and 3D graphics, animations, character development, texturing, sculpting, program design, and coding
Earn industry certifications including Python, Java Script, 3D Visualization, and Animation as well as Unity Programmer and Artist
Graphic Design instruction in media arts, digital imaging, and advanced production design
Public Health Discoveries/Data Science
Participate in University of Louisville (UoL) partnership that provides many dual credit opportunities in the public field
Apply literacy, mathematics, and science concepts using technology to solve real world projects
Leverage technology, data, and communication instilling the knowledge, imagination, and flexibility to tackle complex issues
