Is the DuBois Academy only for African-American males?
No, this program is open to all Jefferson County males entering the sixth through twelfth grade. Our Afro-Centric curriculum is intentionally diverse to meet the needs of Black and Brown students.
Why is this program just for males?
This program is modeled after strategies used in other districts nationwide proven to impact the needs identified by our district’s data on the academic performance of males.
Who was W.E.B. DuBois?
William Edward Burghardt DuBois was one of the cofounders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He was also a sociologist, historian, civil rights activist, and Pan-Africanist as well as a successful author, writer, and editor.
What is different about the DuBois Academy?
This program offers an advanced and rigorous curriculum presented through the lens of Afro-Centric history and culture while using culturally responsive teaching and learning strategies and meeting the common core standards.
Will students receiving special education services be allowed to attend?
Yes, all interested males entering the sixth-twelfth grade are encouraged to apply.
How will acceptance into the program be determined?
We have a tiered admittance process which includes staff recommendations and a performance task.
Am I able to complete an application for a child of whom I do not have custody?
Yes, you may fill out an application for a student; however, the parent or legal guardian must sign off on the application.
Will the program offer Multi-Lingual (ML) services?
Yes, ESL services will be offered if a student has that need.
Are applicants required to be on free/reduced-priced meals to apply?
No, any and all interested males from any socioeconomic background entering the sixth grade may apply.
Is there a dress code?
Yes, all young scholars are expected to wear a uniform. Please see our current uniform policy under the Students tab.

The middle school is located at 3307 East Indian Trail, Louisville, KY 40213. The high school is located at 3901 Atkinson Square Dr., Louisville, KY 40218 .
