Principal
About the Principal:
Dr. Monica Hunter, who has been a teacher, instructional coach and administrator in JCPS since 2005, is the principal at the W.E.B. DuBois Academy.
"I’m ecstatic about the opportunity to be the servant leader of such a prestigious team at W.E.B. DuBois Academy." Hunter said. "My goal is to pick up the mantle left by the former principal, Robert Gunn, and continue the work started at the first Afrocentric school in JCPS. I also look forward to challenging the staff, students, parents, and community to collaborate as we push the needle towards rock solid achievement, while preparing for national syndication as an all-male Afrocentric school."
Dr. Hunter has spent her entire career in Jefferson County Public Schools, beginning in 2007 as an English Language Arts teacher at Noe Middle School. After eight years as a teacher at Noe, Dr. Hunter moved to Olmsted Academy South as goal clarity and instructional coach. In 2019, she jumped into administration, becoming an assistant principal at Atkinson Elementary and later at Iroquois. She was also the principal at Frost/Stuart during the 21-22 school year.
"Dr. Hunter is a proven educator with a track record of working with students and families successfully," said Dr. Rob Fulk, assistant superintendent of middle schools. "She leads from the heart, has a keen mind for instruction, and expects students and teachers to meet the highest standards of learning and instruction. Dr. Hunter has been immersed in equity work for over a decade in JCPS, and is a leader who will ensure that the Afrocentric framework of W.E.B DuBois is implemented with all students."
