Gutermuth Elementary School is committed to providing our students and families with the resources they need to thrive and become self-sufficient. The Family Resource Center is about the business of aiding families in removing non-academic barriers in an effort to promote academic excellence. The Gutermuth Family Resource Center is also committed to bridging the gap between school, community, and home.

In 1990, the state legislature determined that students and families needed extra support. It was determined that FRCs should be established in elementary schools and have six core components to assist families:

  • Families in Training

  • Health Services

  • Preschool Childcare

  • After-School Childcare

  • Training for Child-Care Providers

  • Parent and Child Education

Additionally, each center conducts a needs assessment to determine other areas of relevance.

The Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) District developed specific outcome measures relevant to FRCs. These outcome measures are as follows:

  • Working to improve attendance

  • Community collaboration

  • Reducing suspensions and improving behavior

  • Parental involvement
