Why Freshman Academy is Important

Freshman academies help students transition from middle school to high school or college by providing a supportive learning environment and a variety of activities. Students receive academic assistance and learn how to be academically responsible.  Students build relationships with teachers and peers, and learn how to participate in school activities. Students learn about our specific career pathways and professional opportunities, so that they can choose the appropriate pathway that interests them.

Some benefits of freshman academies include:

  • Increased student achievement

  • Higher attendance rates

  • Fewer discipline incidents

  • More student involvement

  • Improved social transition

  • Positive connections with teachers

  • Early identification of risk behaviors

  • Increased class cohesion
