Middle School Academies
6th Grade Academy
The 6th Grade Academy is divided into two teams, the Trailblazers and the Sprinters. Each team consists of four core content teachers. Middle School operates on a six period schedule, four core classes on team and two related arts classes off team. (Related arts classes are listed below in the Related Arts section.)
Our sixth grade academy provides a smooth transition from elementary school that helps students acclimate to the new structure of the middle school schedule. They are given lockers to help them with organizational skills. Prior to the school year, we host a Mustang Madness Program where we provide an opportunity for new students to meet their teachers, make new friends, and just acclimate to the sometimes difficult transition to middle school.
The 6th Grade Academy has a specific principal and counselor to assist with any administrative needs that may arise. Their photos are linked above to their email addresses. Students get the opportunity to select from the following related arts courses:

Band*
Chorus*
Computer/Speech
Environmental Science

Family and Consumer Science
Literacy/Career Choices

*Band, Chorus, and Orchestra classes are performance classes. Students must choose to participate in these classes and they are yearlong.
Students in the Environmental Science Program at Moore engage in learning about sustainability and practice different facets of it in real world scenarios. The students manage the campus recycling, grow an annual garden using zero pesticides and fertilizer, maintain an orchard, investigate stormwater runoff, and water quality on our campus creek. Students are stewards of our nature preserve and wetlands environment, maintaining its cleanliness and ecosystem health. We are currently partnered with U of L, and often bring in scientists to work with the student, learning about different community environmental impacts.
Students in the Health Class get the opportunity to learn lifelong health skills that will enhance their physical, mental/emotional, and social health. By the end of each semester students will:
Create realistic goals for their health
Research stress management coping skills through skills learned in class
Create recipes and meal plans for themselves and others
Practice First Aid and CPR skills
Learn and practice interpersonal communication skills to build and maintain healthy relationships
Develop decision making skills for a variety of scenarios
Learn how to effectively advocate for their own health and the health of others
Our 8th grade students who take middle school health have the unique opportunity to receive a high school credit. If students earn an A or a B in the course, they will earn ½ of a HS credit which allows them to take more career and technical courses in high school. This credit will follow them to any school in JCPS.
