All JCPS schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Monday, January 13, 2025. Early Childhood classes are canceled. All after school athletic and extracurricular activities remain as scheduled.

Graduation

Senior Graduation Date

This is the time of year when Senior Families start to plan graduation activities.

First, Senior Graduation Ceremonies is usually decided near Spring Break by the Jefferson County Board of Education.

So you can start planning. The earliest any Senior Graduation Ceremony can take place is the last day of school for students. Next, it is usually a 3 or 4 day window (including Saturdays). Keep in mind, Memorial Day is Monday, May 26th, no ceremonies will take place on this holiday.

Keep in mind, this is subject to change.

JCPS Information About Making Up Snow Days

Q:  How will these snow days affect the school calendar? Will Friday, May 23rd still be the last day of school for students?

A: We have five extra days built into the JCPS school calendar to account for situations where we need to cancel school. One of those days was used in September when school was closed due to the strong winds and rain associated with Hurricane Helene. JCPS still has four days that we can ask the Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBE) to forgive. So, as of today, the last day of school would not be impacted as long as the JCBE forgives the three snow days this week. If JCPS schools are closed for more than five days during the school year, the JCBE would revise the School Calendar.

Q: Why can’t students and teachers do online instruction?

A: All students were not sent home with their JCPS-issued Chromebooks or educational packets before winter break. When we can anticipate potentially bad weather, we will send students home with Chromebooks and/or educational packets a day or two ahead of the storm so online learning would be an option.

Attendance Matters

1.State Law - HB 611 is a new Kentucky law that requires the referral of students with 15 unexcused absences to the Jefferson County Attorney's Office (JCAO).  The goal of HB 611 is to reduce unexcused absences, promote consistent attendance, and ensure students receive the support they need to stay engaged in school.

2. The minimum attendance percentage is 80% (unexcused absences only). If your student drops below this number prior to January 1st, your student will be put on probation and may be exited by the end of the year.

3. Attendance Cards were mail out last week from the Board of Education.

Social Security Number

Middle & High School - Social Security Numbers (SSN)

This is critical for all students.

  • Did you know that thousands of students don't receive free scholarship monies, often because they are just missing their Social Security Number.

  • Over 54% of JCPS students do not have a social security number listed in Infinite Campus. Without a linked SSN, students cannot earn KEES money.

All students are required to have a copy of their Social Security card as part of their official school records.

Please bring a copy of your child's Social Security card to The Phoenix or contact Calli Hagan for other methods. 502-485-7700.
