Kentucky Youth Assembly (KSA) – The Phoenix won Premier Delegation and Violet Stines won Outstanding Delegate
The Phoenix students wrote a bill that would require Level IV trauma centers to have bariatric-sized medical equipment available to accommodate all patients. The bill was inspired by one of our seniors, whose father passed away due to the absence of such equipment. While our bill did not pass the KYA house or senate, our students adapted to the set-back, remained engaged, and even gave impromptu speeches in support or dissent of proposed legislation in front of HUNDREDS of peers.
KYA participants:
Violet Stines
Hunter Stanford
Jamarion Cobb
Grant Bowman
Zavier Bowden
Danny Wallace
Landon Moody
Greg Gore
Walter Watts
Hazel Stines
Brooklyn Taylor

Attendance Matters
1.State Law - HB 611 is a new Kentucky law that requires the referral of students with 15 unexcused absences to the Jefferson County Attorney's Office (JCAO). The goal of HB 611 is to reduce unexcused absences, promote consistent attendance, and ensure students receive the support they need to stay engaged in school.
2. The minimum attendance percentage is 80% (unexcused absences only). If your student drops below this number prior to January 1st, your student will be put on probation and may be exited by the end of the year.
3. Attendance Cards were mail out last week from the Board of Education.

Middle & High School - Social Security Numbers (SSN)
This is critical for all students.
Did you know that thousands of students don't receive free scholarship monies, often because they are just missing their Social Security Number.
Over 54% of JCPS students do not have a social security number listed in Infinite Campus. Without a linked SSN, students cannot earn KEES money.
All students are required to have a copy of their Social Security card as part of their official school records.
Please bring a copy of your child's Social Security card to The Phoenix or contact Calli Hagan for other methods. 502-485-7700.
