Hello!! My name is Miriam Sargent.  The kids call me Ms. Miriam.  I am your Family Resource Coordinator (FRC).  This is my 7th year at Shelby as the FRC.  I have been in the social services field for over 12 years. I am so excited to be working with all the families at Shelby again this year.

The primary goal of the FRC is to remove any barriers to student learning.  Our mission is to enhance students abilities to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote early learning and successful transition into school, academic achievement and well being, and graduation and transition into adult life.

There can be many different barriers that can get in the way of a student being successful in school. One of the things that I do is work with families to make sure they get the resources and support they need to overcome any obstacle that might get in the way of their child’s education.  My goal is to help families get whatever resource they need from the community in order for their children to have the best year ever.

There are many barriers that can get in the way of a student's success in school, so the center works to ensure that needed resources and support are made available in order to remove any obstacles. The center also strives to provide an inviting, warm atmosphere where parents can feel comfortable and confident in taking an active part in the school and in the life of their child. By working together, the center and families can replace educational barriers with bridges of opportunity and success.

The mission of the Family Resource and Youth Services Center (FRYSC) Program is to enhance students’ abilities to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote the following:

  • Early learning and successful transition into school

  • Academic achievement and well-being

  • Graduation and transition into adult life
