January 8, 2024 - If you need help troubleshooting your Spectrum internet or cable TV service, there's a chance that one of the customer service representatives helping you through your problem is a Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Academies of Louisville student. Through a partnership with Spectrum, seven JCPS students are earning a good salary, benefits and job experience at the company's Customer Service and Technical Support Center in East Louisville.

"We have a great partnership with JCPS," said Marty Dapore with Spectrum.

Dapore calls the relationship a "win-win". He said the company trains students on communication skills, dealing with customers, technology and navigating a traditional office environment while Spectrum gets great employees who understand and feel comfortable with new technologies. Dapore is hoping more students will be interested in interning at Spectrum, creating a jobs pipeline for the firm.

Kara and Darius are two JCPS seniors answering phone calls at the support center. They both said they've enjoyed their first "real job" and learned alot about communication skills.

"Those skills are going to benefit them regardless of what they go on to do in life," said Emily Wirtzberger, Academy coach at Seneca High School.
