Will appear on Tamron Hall show March 1

Feb. 29, 2024—Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Bus Driver Larry Farrish Jr.’s story about helping a student who was feeling down has touched hundreds of thousands of hearts across the globe.

In case you missed it, Farrish noticed Engelhard Elementary School first-grader Levi was feeling down one day earlier this month when he picked him up for school. After learning Levi was upset because he didn’t have pajamas for the school's "pajama day," Farrish finished up his morning bus runs, ran to a local Family Dollar store, bought a few pairs of pajamas, and brought them back to Engelhard for Levi.

Farrish’s thoughtfulness turned Levi's day around.

“Mr. Larry’s heart is kind,” Levi said. “His heart is filled with hundreds of joy. Like how he cares about me, is making my day.”

Farrish’s kind gesture has been shared far and wide, reaching hundreds of thousands of people via the district’s Facebook post and garnering attention from dozens of national and international media outlets, including the Tamron Hall show in New York City.

Farrish, Levi, and Levi’s mother flew to NYC last week to tape a segment for the show, and their episode is scheduled to air tomorrow, March 1.

Many in the community, across the U.S., and even as far away as England have reached out asking how they could help support Farrish and Levi. Southend Street Angels, a local nonprofit organization, collected donations and was able to take Levi and his family on a shopping spree this weekend. They also purchased the family a new washing machine and groceries.

“From a guy who hasn’t had social media in a decade, to now my face is on the news,” Farrish said. “It’s just overwhelming, in a good way.”

Farrish’s act of kindness is just one small example of the good taking place throughout JCPS every day, he said.

“There’s a lot of heroes within JCPS,” Farrish said. “I want to give recognition to all my bus drivers, all the staff that actually do what I have done that hasn’t been recognized. I just want them to know we see you, you know, we’re here and we’re together in this.”
