Atherton Senior Hai Shee is the team's leading tackler

By Dyuce Woodson

Oct. 30, 2023 - Atherton High School senior Hai Shee didn't play organized football until he came to Atherton as a freshman. In his fourth season in the program, head coach Anthony White has nothing but positive things to say about the standout linebacker.

"He's a guy that you want to be a poster boy for your program," He said. "He's the guy where you want to get more of those kids in your program."

Shee is the team's leading tackler. He says the part that he loves most about football is "the grit" that comes with an aggressive game.

"I've always been a fighter," Shee said.

Shee means that in more ways than one. He was a Golden Glove boxer when he was younger. He was also born in a refugee camp in Thailand.

"We were refugees, living in a refugee camp in Thailand," Shee said. "So, the war in Myanmar is currently going on right now. It's the longest civil war ever. My parents just wanted more opportunities for us. A better life for [his siblings]. So we moved to the U.S."

He moved to the United States when he was two years old. He credits his parents as the fuel that drives him to succeed on and off the field.

"What my parents did is a really big motivating factor for me because if it weren't for my parents, I don't think I'd be doing what I'm doing," Shee said. "They inspire me to come out here and do more, give it my all every day because, really I have no other choice. In all aspects of my life, like, failure isn't an option for me."

He and the Ravens found success on the gridiron.

Atherton won the program's first district title in football recently and their 9-1 record is the best since 1973.
