Oct. 19, 2023 - The Central High School Yellowjackets powderpuff team is planning on keeping its title as the best powderpuff football team in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS).

The Yellowjackets won last year's inaugural JCPS Powderpuff Football Tournament last season but this year the entire team is new.

Senior Diamond Roach didn't play for the team last year but she decided this year is the best time to play.

"This year is senior year, so you know, go big or go home," She said.

Freshman Lailah Gant decided to play for the team, following her brother's influence.

"My brother has played football for so long so I was like, I might as well try it out," She said. "So, I'm out here doing flag football now."

Roach says she's excited to play in this tournament which features 10 other teams from JCPS while getting the chance to try something new.

"I feel like, every female should have the opportunity to play whichever sport they want to play," She said. "So flag football is, like, why not?"
