September 13, 2023—A longtime Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) educator and leader is taking on a new position in the district. Charita Kimbrough has been named principal of Shacklette Elementary School.

“I feel extremely blessed, and beyond thrilled to be selected as Shacklette's new principal. Shacklette is an amazing jewel in the south end, and I am eager to serve as a champion for the students, staff, and families,” said Kimbrough. “Shacklette's mission and motto are aligned with my personal vision and my passion for education.”

Kimbrough began her career with JCPS in 2005 as an Exceptional Child Education (ECE) teacher at Iroquois Middle School. In her nearly two decades with the district she has served in various roles at both the elementary and middle school level including ECE teacher, goal clarity coach, assistant principal at Farnsley Middle School and principal at Maupin Elementary School. Most recently, she took on the leadership role of Explore Pathways Coach, supporting Explore teachers with the implementation of instructional and classroom management strategies to support their professional growth and development.

“Ms. Kimbrough is an experienced educator, who is a strong champion of students, families, and staff members.  She works hard to ensure that all voices are heard and that all needs are met,” said LaMesa Marks-Johns, assistant superintendent of elementary schools, Zone 1. “Her coaching leadership style revolves around empowering both teachers and students while fostering an environment of collaboration and growth.”

Kimbrough earned her bachelor's degree in science and psychology from the University of Louisville and her master's degree in teaching from Spalding University.

Her first day as principal at Shacklette Elementary School will be September 18.
