Has worked in JCPS finance since 2001

September 11, 2023—Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio announced today that Eddie Muns has been named chief financial officer (CFO) for Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS).
“Eddie Muns has served JCPS for more than 20 years and brings a wealth of financial and institutional knowledge to the CFO position,” Pollio said. “He is a respected leader and change agent who has helped drive efficiencies that benefit all schools and improve student equity. I am confident Mr. Muns will ensure JCPS’ core financial functions continue running smoothly while steering the strategic growth needed to help JCPS excel.”
Muns, a certified public accountant (CPA) and executive administrator of accounting, has led the district’s accounting services division since 2001.
“Schools are incredibly inspirational,” Muns said. “Magic happens in every school—magic that forms the next generation. I have always believed that I have the greatest job of any CPA in Louisville, because I get to support magic.”
During his tenure at JCPS, Muns:
Created the Finance Support Center (FSC), a team of floater bookkeepers that support schools who have vacancies in finance positions. The FSC permanently supports Accelerated Improvement Schools (AIS) and Choice Zone schools, an equity-focused service that allows these schools to repurpose that budget toward other priorities.
Oversaw a drastic decrease in school audit findings through targeted training for school staff.
Designed and implemented the district’s internal control system, receiving clean audits every year of his career.
Increased annual revenues for the district by $800,000 per year through changes in accounts payable payment methods and investing practices.
Muns is currently leading innovative initiatives such as using bots to process invoices for payment and a new voucher system that would eliminate maps, math checks, and processing delays, he said.
Muns holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Wake Forest University and worked in private industry for five years before joining JCPS. In April 2023, he completed the Council of Great City Schools’ Michael Casserly Leadership Institute, a program for aspiring CFOs.
He credited his mentor and recently retired JCPS CFO Cordelia Hardin with always supporting his efficiency-focused projects. Muns is thrilled for the opportunity to lead a strong finance team and continue collaborating with key partners throughout the district, he said.
