Has spent entire career with JCPS

May 24, 2023 - An assistant principal at one Jefferson County Public School will be taking over the top job at another this summer. Kim Slusher has been named the new principal at Greathouse/Shryock Traditional Elementary School. She is currently an assistant principal at Dunn Elementary School.
“I am elated to join the team as principal of Greathouse/Shryock Traditional Elementary School,” Slusher said. “Together, we will continue to build on the successful systems in place, while honoring the traditions of excellence.”
Slusher has been an accomplished educator, with all of her experience coming in JCPS schools. She was a teacher at Rangeland, Norton and Dunn Elementary Schools before being promoted to assistant principal at Dunn in 2018.
“Ms. Slusher’s educational experience and career background has prepared her to be the best advocate for all students, staff members, and the traditional program,” said Joe Leffert, assistant superintendent of elementary schools, Zone 3. “She believes in high academic and behavioral expectations for all stakeholders coupled with a supportive balance of organization, communication, equity, compassion, and commitment.”
Slusher has been in Jefferson County Public Schools’ (JCPS) training program for aspiring principals. At Dunn, she initiated a Student Leadership Team to give students a voice in their school and to promote community service. She has also participated in a number of professional development training sessions through the years and has been a member of numerous school committees including Racial Equity and Academic Performance panels.
“As an equity-centered leader, I will collaborate with the school community to provide access and opportunity for all of our Greathouse Lions,” Slusher said. “While I will miss the team at Dunn, I’m excited about the opportunity to lead another great school family at Greathouse.”
Slusher has degrees from the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville as well as education certifications from Spalding University. She will remain at Dunn for the rest of the school year before formally starting her new job at Greathouse/Shryock on July 1.
