Noe Middle School's VEX Robotics team will represent school in world competition

By Dyuce Woodson

May 2, 2023–For many students, after-school programs are a way to further a passion or find a new interest. That’s part of why Noe Middle School teacher Janet Seibert got into teaching in the first place.

“I started late teaching, and I told the people there, I want to teach kids how to learn,” Seibert said. “How much fun it is to learn things, and this is the epitome of that.”

She’s referring to the VEX IQ Robotics team–a program she leads and has had much success with during the last few years. Her team will represent Noe in the world competition for the fifth-straight year.

“I feel, to me, it’s just me fulfilling my part in the school," seventh-grader James said. “I just feel like it’s the tradition that keeps going.”

When James and his twin brother Robert joined the team earlier this year, they looked at it as just something to do after school and as a way to socialize.

“Mostly a lot of my friends were doing it,” James said. “I didn’t think I’d take too much interest in it.”

Robert added, “We heard that extra credit for high schools would really support it. But after experiencing it and learning how to do it more, I really found the interest inside robotics and building with the team.”
