Katie Williams spent two decades in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) as a teacher and assistant principal. Now, she’s returning to the District as the principal at Stonestreet Elementary School.
“I am honored to be chosen as the next principal at Stonestreet Elementary,” Williams said. “This is my 24th year in education and I have never been more excited for the first day of school.”
Williams has spent the past three years as an Educational Recovery Leader with the Kentucky Department of Education and has been working with students at Cane Run Elementary school. But from 2001-2021 she was employed by JCPS, first as a teacher at Iroquois High School and Meyzeek Middle School and later as an assistant principal at Meyzeek and Kenwood Elementary School. It’s those experiences that will make her a great principal according to Dr. LaMesa Marks-Johns, assistant superintendent of elementary schools, Zone 1.
“Ms. Williams is a strong instructional leader who believes in fostering a positive school culture and climate,” Marks-Johns said. “She understands that parents and guardians are integral to developing a robust school culture and successful students, both academically and socially-emotionally. She leads with compassion, responsibility, and integrity, ensuring that the entire school community has the support and resources needed for student success.”
Williams has two degrees, including a Master of Education, from the University of Louisville (UofL) as well as a certification in administration from UofL in 2006. She said her higher education and background in working with children on the ground level has prepared her to lead a school.
“Teaching students to read proficiently is not only our responsibility, but foundational to the idea of a more just world,” Williams said. “As the new principal at Stonestreet, I look forward to collaborating with teachers and families to build a true learning community.”
Williams first day at Stonestreet is August 2.
