Charles Marshall said he wants a chance to help mold the lives and futures of Jefferson County Public Schools’ (JCPS) youngest students. Marshall will get that chance when he takes over as the new principal of Dunn Elementary School.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to shape and mold young minds and encourage their passion for lifelong learning at Dunn Elementary,” Marshall said. “While I will miss the relationships I have built with students, families, staff and the community at Meyzeek, I’m looking forward to this new challenge and meeting a whole new school community!”
Taking the reins at Dunn will be Marshall’s first leadership role at the elementary school level. He has spent the majority of his 16 year education career in JCPS middle and high schools. Marshall is currently the principal at Meyzeek Middle School where he has helped build strong relationships with magnet school families as well as students, parents and organizations in the surrounding neighborhoods served by Meyzeek.
“Mr. Marshall will be a great addition to the Dunn family,” said Dr. Jessica Rosenthal, assistant superintendent of elementary schools Zone 3. “Mr. Marshall is a proven instructional leader who knows how to establish learning environments that provide challenge and engagement for all students. Most importantly, Mr. Marshall understands the importance of a positive and supportive school environment for all students, staff, and families. He values transparency, accessibility, and communication.”
Marshall joined JCPS in 2008, working as an Exceptional Child Education (ECE) teacher, first at Western High School and then Marion C. Moore Middle School. He left the district in 2013 to become business academy principal at Jeffersonville High School in Indiana. He came back to JCPS in 2018 as a freshman academy principal at Fern Creek High School followed by a stint as seventh grade academy principal at Moore.
“I plan to continue Dunn Elementary's strong academic tradition, focusing on innovative teaching methods, more project-based learning opportunities, fostering a supportive environment, and actively engaging with Dunn students, staff and families.” Marshall said.
Marshall’s first official day at Dunn will be after Fall Break on Monday, October 7.
