A longtime JCPS educator has been named the new principal at Meyzeek Middle School.
Dr. Amber Jaggers, who currently serves as an assistant principal at Noe Middle School, will begin her new role at Meyzeek on Nov. 25.
"I am honored and incredibly excited to be selected to lead Meyzeek,” Jaggers said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with our dedicated teachers, amazing students, and supportive families to continue to build upon Meyzeek's tradition of excellence, innovation, and success."
Jaggers has more than 20 years of experience in education. She began her career teaching social studies at Waggener High School in 2003 before moving to Fern Creek High School in 2010. In 2011, she transitioned to instructional leadership at Jeffersontown High School as the academic instructional coach. Jaggers was assistant middle school principal at the Academy @ Shawnee before going to Noe Middle.
Dr. Heather Benfield, assistant superintendent of middle schools, called Jaggers a “driven, goal-oriented leader” who is “committed to serving students, staff, and families.”
“I am confident that principal Jaggers will step into the role with enthusiasm and is ready to continue and build upon the history of excellence at Meyzeek Middle,” Benfield said.
Jaggers holds a doctorate in educational leadership, a master’s degree in teaching (secondary education), and a bachelor’s degree in psychology—all from the University of Louisville.
Among her priorities for Meyzeek, Jaggers said she will push for the school to become a national model for academic excellence, MST innovation, staff development, and student sense of belonging through a collaborative process.
"With Meyzeek's MST magnet program and our new Explore pathways, students will discover new ways to think, explore, inquire, and thrive as learners,” Jaggers said. “I am committed to ensuring our students have high quality instruction, authentic learning experiences, equal access and opportunity, and a positive school culture that welcomes and empowers all staff and students.”
