Students who left six Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) magnet schools in 2024-25 due to lack of JCPS-provided transportation will be allowed to return to those schools for the 2025-26 school year, according to plans announced by JCPS.
Here is the letter that has been sent to the parents/guardians of students who are eligible to return to Coleridge-Taylor Elementary, Whitney Young Elementary, and Johnson Traditional Middle School, Butler Traditional High School, duPont Manual High School, and Louisville Male High School:
Dear JCPS families,
As you may know, the Jefferson County Board of Education voted to reinstate JCPS transportation service for students at certain magnet schools. All students at Coleridge-Taylor Elementary, Whitney Young Elementary, and Johnson Traditional Middle School, as well as students who directly qualify for free and reduced lunch at Butler Traditional High School, duPont Manual High School, and Louisville Male High School are now eligible for JCPS transportation to and from school.
As a result, your child now has the opportunity to re-enroll in their previous magnet school for the 2025-26 school year. This option is only available to students who left Butler, Coleridge-Taylor, Johnson, Male, Manual, or Young prior to the start of, or during, the 2024-25 school year because of a lack of JCPS transportation.
Please let us know by April 10 if your student plans to remain at their current school or return to their magnet school. If we do not hear from you by April 10, your child will remain at their currently enrolled school and will not have the option to re-enroll in their previous magnet school for the 2025-26 school year.
