At Western Middle for the Arts, Visual Art majors are challenged to learn how to create art using multiple tools and techniques. Our hope is to provide our young artists with an artistic foundation that promotes positive social and emotional  learning. 

What will we do? 

My goal as your art teacher is to challenge you to use anything and everything possible to make art. Our goal is to grow and learn from our successes and our mistakes. From cardboard sculpture to photography, I want you to create and have fun. Projects will be based on a medium like drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and more. Additionally, you will also learn the terms and methods we use in the art world. 

Get ready to great creative with materials and really learn how we make it work in Ms. Thompson's class!

Art is every subject combined! Yep, that's right. Visual Art is all subjects including math, social studies, science, and even language arts. Our artists will learn from traditional masters to present day art rockstars. We'll explore multiple cultures from the past to the social issues we face today. We'll use these sources of inspiration to create works in our own voice and individual style.  

What can I expect coming to art? Come ready to create with an open mind. Our goal is to help you learn how to grow and develop your artistic self. Everyone has their own unique talent or skill. In art, we challenge ourselves to make our best work no matter what level of ability. 

In Visual Art, you are family. Let's be honest. Middle school can be a fantastically wonderful and fantastically awful time. Making art can help in multiple ways from stress relief to inspiring future careers. Above all else, we need you. Every artist, every person is important.
