VA Minors

What is a Visual Art Minor?

Visual Art (VA) Minors are offered for all 7th and 8th grade students at Western Middle for the Arts. 7th and 8th grade students will have 12 weeks in each minor for 3 total rotations. Switching minors is not an option so choose wisely.

What will we do?

VA Minors are different than majors. Rather than learn about all the mediums, we will focus specifically on one of three areas at a time. Sculpture, Photography, and Ceramics are the main areas covered in Ms. Thompson's course. From cardboard sculpture to forced perspective photography, I want you to create and have fun. My goal as your art teacher is to challenge you to try new approaches to making art.

Art & The Future!

Art is every subject combined! Many of the concepts, terms, and techniques you will learn will help you in the future. Yep, that's right. Problem solving, project planning, and even the process of brainstorming ideas all play a big part in helping you in making your artwork a success. It's not just the final product, it's the journey you take in bringing your ideas to life.

What can I expect coming to art? Visual Art is all subjects including math, social studies, science, and even language arts. Come ready to create with an open mind. Our goal is to help you learn how to grow and develop your artistic self. Everyone has their own unique talent or skill. In art, we challenge ourselves to make our best work no matter what level of ability.
