Bowen Elementary has been a member of the Lyndon community for over 50 years. Opening in 1969, the school was named for Albert E. Bowen, a distinguished JCPS Board Member who valued the importance of a strong educational experience for all students. Serving over 725 students, Bowen has grown to be one of the largest elementary schools in JCPS.
At Bowen, we provide students with a challenging academic program and set high expectations for students and staff. All learning environments are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, which is used daily to enhance learning. In addition to instruction in the regular classroom, students are engaged weekly in a variety of interdisciplinary studies in the following areas: Art, Library, Music, Physical Education, Spanish, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
Students also have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities like the All County Choir, Band, Basketball, Beta Club, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Kids Who Code, Orchestra, Problem Solving, Quick Recall, Soccer, and Volleyball. The opportunities for student engagement are endless!
Family involvement is the secret ingredient to Bowen’s success! Families are encouraged to be a visible part of our daily routine. We strive to give Bowen the feel of a neighborhood school by providing opportunities outside the school day for families to get together and have fun! Family Fun Nights, skating parties, and other family events are designed to help build a sense of community among our Bowen families.
The right balance of academic excellence, community involvement, and good old-fashioned fun makes Bowen “The Greatest School on Earth.”
