The Lorax Process

We use Minecraft Education to create our build. The video was taken using the screen capture option on a chromebook, then added to YouTube.

First everyone shared ideas about which book we should create the setting for in Minecraft.

Once we chose a book, the group started off by reading The Lorax so we knew what to build.

Next we split into groups to design each part of the minecraft build. We used chart paper to plan out every section of the build and made a map of where everything would go. Then we started to practice building how our part looks. Next we got to start the world that we were building in.

  • The group that was building the clean pond used barrier blocks to make the brown barbaloots and swomke swans not fly or run away. They also made the barbaloots out of sheep and dyed them browm so they look like barbaloots, and they used parrots to make the swomee swans. For the humming fish they used tropical fish.

  • The group that was building the big factory used campfires to make smoke coming out of the pipes and they made a railway so it looks like truffula trees are going with it. This
dea came trom the mustrations of the book. They used redstone to make doors. In the factory the machines make gluppity glup and schloppity schlopp. It also has a tree cutter, the oncelers office, and a generator.
The onceler wagon group used barrier blocks to make the donkey not run away.

: The berkim group made grickle grass out of mycelium. They ale made smoggy clouds

and the pile of rock with the word unless and little seeding.

  • The small factory used NPC'S to make workers making the thneeds. They also made the Lorax NPC and the thneed buyer NPC.

  • Next the super Ax hacker group used stone fences and item frames to build a machine to wack off four truffula trees in one smacker.

  • The script group went through the book and wrote a poem about the story. They tried to rhyme like Dr. Seuss without using his words. They started the video with a quote from the story, but the rest of it they wrote on their own.

Once all of the parts were built, the whole group started making truffula trees with structure blocks so we don't have to keep building the trees. For the truffula fruits we used weeping vines and we added barrier blocks under them so they wouldn't grow. We also made a stump forest.

When we looked back through the book, we saw that we forgot to add paths. We added those. made out of white quartz. As we were working on our build, we looked at the book to guide us on how to build it. Finally it was time to make our video. One student moved around the world while 2 others read the script. They used a logitech microphone to have good sound quality.
